Live Baltic Campus presented at seminar The Campus: Where University and City meet

May 26, 2016 @ 12:30 am - 4:00 pm

In recent years, cities have become a focal point in terms of innovation and policy-making. In the first half of 2016, the Dutch government is working on an urban agenda as part of the priorities for its EU-presidency. The focus on cities invites the question of the role of the university in the city. Therefore, the VSNU is organizing a seminar on the role of the campus as a bridge between the university and the city, lead by VSNU-president Karl Dittrich.

Associate professor Alexandra den Heijer, who holds the chair of Real Estate Management at Delft University of Technology, will discuss the opportunities and obstacles for the campus in Europe. The mayor of Leiden, mr. Henri Lenferink, will discuss how the campus of Leiden University, the oldest university in the Netherlands, functions as a bridge between the city and the university. Ms. Päivi Keränen, project manager of the Live Baltic Campus project, will discuss how this project aims to develop campuses as innovation hubs by creating a better urban environment for businesses and residents. The seminar will close with a panel consisting of the three speakers, during which participants are encouraged to join the discussion. The seminar is organised by the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU), in association with the Presidency of the Council of the European Union by the Netherlands
